Hello to all,

I have a fully functional and registered VW trike made from a 1969 Beetle using the standard 4 spd gearbox. I have a line on a 412 fully auto tranny I would like to adapt for handicap use. If anyone has any do's or don'ts wills or won'ts please advise.

A few things to remember. In the automatic version of the type 3....the left and right side drive shafts are not the same lengths. This is because the ring gear side of the differential housing is slightly offset. The 411/412 which is the exact same tranny as the type 3 auto save for a couple minor internal variations....had equal length driveshafts due to the entire engine and drivetrain being offset.

Also no matter which way you mount it...all weight of the entire gearbox must be taken up by the crossbar mount over the linewhere the engine mates to the tranny. The rear tailcone end simply has a bump stop and must have no tension on it or it will damage the long drive shaft inside. Ray
