There are lots of choices about what battery to put in your Thing (or other vehicles) I run the Optima red tops in any vehicle that they will fit in.

I ran into the Remy Battery Company in Wisconsin.

They carry a complete line of batteries and battery accessories.

The have enclosed plastic battery boxes for around $15

They ship batteries completely enclosed in a urethane foam case that seals and protects the batteries in transit.

I have purchased a number of batteries from them and have been very pleased with price, service and shipping.

I just found a plastic battery cover manufactured specifically for the optima battery. It can be found on ebay as item# 140103065380

It is $6 and $7.50 shipping. They sell the multiples of the same top for a reduced price. I bought three tops for $24.50 including shipping. These are perfect for prctecting the top posts from getting grounded on metal.
