Buggy Turbo 2,1 DJ *Bugun 09*

Post by Rydh »

I have a buggy whith a 2,1dj engine and the plan is to turbocharge it whitout changeing the pistons, i know that the best thing is to install MV pistons instead but i don't want to take the engine apart and i am glad to get just 20-30 extra ponys out of it.

The plan i to install a Mitsu Tdo4-13c from a volvo and a nissan 200sx intercooler and new injektors/fuelpressureregulator (perhaps progressive). For starters run on 99octane shell V-power and then try E85 (15%gas and 85% ethanol) both is easily available in any gasstation here in sweden.

Has anyone tryed this before on a stock DJ engine? any other thougths?

you will be fine, but only if you run it in E85, you will be amazed at how much you can boost a DJ 2.1 on E85, oh and a good F,I EMS is a must.
good luck

Th DJ has 10,5;1 i comp. so you should get control of your ignition so you can retard it a bit under boost.

I run Megajolt/EDIS . on my WBX .
Cheap and nice working!

More uppdates:

I´m now running it on 5psi boost and stock ignition and larger injektors and an ajustable fuelpressureregulator and it works great. (98octane)

I started it this weekend so there is a bit more adjusting to do, and I´m going to try a bit more boost.

That's strange, They seem to work fine here..

Yesterday i did a bit more adjusting of the FI

Now i run 3,2bars fuelpressure and 5 steps more tension on the spring in the afm and 5psi of boost. I'm using 214cc volvo (borsch) 0280 150 762 injectors

No nocks, just a little bit rich on full boost and Just a bit on the lean side on partial load but as son as i open the trottle a little bit the AF meter ligths up, Perfekt 8)

Next step is more boost!

That's sweet. Think I could shoe-horn one like that into the back of my Vanagon?

How are you cooling the radiator/intercooler? Does an electric fan have to run all the time, or is there some ram-air ducting? I couldn't see how you did it in your pics.

Thanks, Nothing is impossible, but perhaps not with my kind of manifold!

The fan runs over a thermostat and over the radiator and intercooler i have a Scoop, the one on the pictures i temporary, the new one is on its way:

Sorry, i didn´t read this until now

The vacumadvance"bell" seems to bee working with boost aswell. If I put 0,8bars of kompressed air in the inlet it will retard the ignition 7-8degrees based on my messurements. So at 0,3bars of boost i will ha a retard of about 3-4degrees, i think that it will work fine.

nice.!
Since u have swapped tje injectors to bigger ones, did u adjust the AirFlowMeter or replaced it with a bigger one to compensate for the extra fuel?
