carb switch = dizzy switch?

Post by orangesuper »

I am in the middle of installing the engine into my 1970 bay the engine came to me in pieces its a 1600 DP so im not sure its the original engine am I mistaken or didnt all 1970 models come with a SP motor? Well anyway the carb in the parts box was gross and in need of a serious rebuild. It was a 34 pict 3 and I happened to have another 34 pict 3 in shiny condition off my 74 superbeetle sitting on the shelf the problem I didnt notice untill today when I was about to install the vacuum lines was that the dizzy on the engine is dual vacuum advance and the carb is single advance the hole that was on the other carb for the retard line is plugged on the carb in installed. Do I need to install the dizzy from the 74(its got the dreaded 009 installed so the stock dizzy is just sitting on the shelf) or can I just swap the vacuum advance units. Thanks- Jeff

Just leave the retard side of the advance open and time to 7.5
