Raygreenwood, you wrote about this back in 2005, not sure which forum.
Did you ever make this change ? I bought a 1975 Riviera 1800
with a dead engine. All the parts appear to be there except the alternator.
I'd be very interested in your results if you did the change.
Thanks
Steve

I will be making the change in about May. I will probably go to the motorola style alternator. Just easier to get in a variety of amperage ratings. Pretty dependable too....though maybe not the 300k miles an original Boshc unit goes. The big proglem will not be installing. Thats a matter of spacers. The reall issue will be providing an air source duct. On the back...it should not be hard to do. It simply needs a scoop to reach away from the exhaust for cool air.
I believe from what I have been told, that even though the fan is on the front inside the engine compartment, it draws from rear to front. Just like the stock one was fed from the cooling manifold from rear to front. It seems that there was no problem with the air dumping into the engine compartment...plenty of room to escape.
I will be working out the wiring issues soon as well. There is an explaination somewhere here in teh forums of how to go from three wire stock to single wire self regulated like motorola. I will be posting it as I get closer. Ray
