crank breather

well we all know that a type 4 engine needs some crankcase breather system. but i dont think VW had this in mind :shock:

me and roadi (CHEERS MATE I OWE YA:tup: ) took it out yeasterday and found the damage:sniff: we was going to swap it with another 1700 412 engine till we found that to be a bit knackerd with petrol mixed in the oil and spark plugs coated in burnt oil and a stuck dizzy (and i mean stuck):tdown:


still here to bigger and better things :wink: :wink: :wink:

Damn! a rod has let go... :cry:
Weird how these can run 300K miles without a problem and on some other engine, they let go for no apperent reason at all... :?

I bet it dropped a seat, broke a piston, then the rod pushed a piece of the piston through the engine case. Seen it MANY times.

yes thats my bet as i took number 1 sparkplug out and its well chewed :shock:


going to strip it down for parts now and sell whats good :wink:
