A Thing Value Discussion
It is time for the Thing community to come together and protect the value of our beloved car. It is our time and season. There are posts on numerous other forums that have hard numbers to support my idea. Larry and a band of other classic Thingsters sold one on the BJ auction for more than one can imagine. Now we need to support this movement and work to increase the value of our Things. Do not sell half done projects. Go the extra step and enjoy the fruit of your labor.

While I wouldn't begin to suggest the B-J prices would see every Thing selling for major auction level bucks, I do believe these sales, coupled with the known approximate remaining number of vehicles, does tend to support a rise in values. B-J will always be on the extreme high end of the scale. Supply and demand will eventually determine what an average, everyday, daily driver will typically be selling for in the future. There does seem to be a resurgence of popularity of Things among buyers who are not particularly VW aficionados. Depending on how large the numbers of that group become, in addition to the VW enthusiasts community in the US as well as worldwide, I believe the trend will be toward bigger numbers, both in asking prices and in sale prices. Not B-J numbers, but bigger numbers nevertheless.

Great post. Thanks for taking the time to put all those sales and links together. You make a good case for what I believe is a trend in the ever increasing value of the VW Thing. The same thing happend to the 356 Prsche a few years ago. Now a person of mderate means has been left in the dust to afford such a car.
