Back in Thingland!

Post by spaeth@gorge.net »

I have had 3 Things and sold Bob Ingman one of mine. My last Thing was a near perfect better than new car that I really loved but it was too nice. I was always worried about the paint and it getting beat up. I really lliked the red car that I had sold Bob as it was solid and mechanically pretty good but I didn't stress about it. I eventually sold that car and my 60 Double Cab in order to get a Syncro Double Cab. I have been out of aircooleds for awhile, but I have been dying to get another Thing. The other day an ad popped up on Craigslist and I couldn't resist. We picked up a white 73 just like the last one I sold. It only has 50,000 miles on it and came with both soft and hard tops and gorgeous gas heater that works great. The car has some dents and tweaks here and there and it is bone stock. It is so good to be back in a Thing. It is good to be back here again. My old 73 can be seen on the first page of picture posts. I will get some pics of this Thing and post them up as well.

Good to be back,
Craig

Craig!! Welcome back to the land of Things K-mann here. For those of you who do not know Craig he is one of the late great VW folks around. He is a real old-timer here on STF Thing. He posted here when Thingowneres still hsared the offroad Foruma dn had no home of our own rior to MN Air Head, Bob Iongman and I workde to get our own space. Bob (who bought Craig's Thing) asked me to be co moderator fo this forum adn then later when health adn interest limited Bob, he asked me to take over. But the good nes is Bob is back in the pink adn psts here from time to time but is more into woldlife photgraphing his Alsakan paradise.

Anyway, the point is, welcome back Craig. Great to have you with us as a breath of fresh air and a wise and sage VW and Thing expert...

Here are some of my pics of my Thing in White Salmon, not Thailand. That is pretty funny. I guess it does look like that when you just glance at it.

Welcome back Craig.

I didn't think when I met you at Syncro de Mayo in 2004 that you will buy another VW Thing 3 years later.

Did you sell your green syncro double cab ?

I still have the double cab. I sold my last Thing and my 1960 Double Cab to buy the green 16" Syncro Double Cab. We are selling our 88 Cabriolet to fund the purchase of this Thing. So once again, I end up with a Double Cab and a Thing. I remembered we had e-mailed back and forth some before that. It may have even been here. That was a while ago. Good to hear from you again. Hopefully we will meet up some time once more.

Do you still have your same Thing?

Hey Craig! I still have the Thing you sold me. It actually belongs to my son now ( you drove me to his place in Portland) but I have not turned it over to him yet and still drive it a lot with a 2056 hyd/40 Dells from a 914 installed in flat four configuration (third T-4 to be in it). Take care. Bob
