The vacuum can on my distributor only has one nipple to slide a hose on, not the two I've seen on the forum discussions. I have a '71 411 variant. Is my distributor from a type 3? Will it work for my car if it is from a type 3?

Don't assume you have the original distributor.

What's the part number? It's stamped on the body.

Type 4's.....especially 411's in Europe also had a single vacuum can for some years....no vacuum retard. The carbed versions had this. Some FI models that had the early non-fuel shut-off TPS..also used this single can. The corect distributor will be noted by the number. It should be 022 905 205 and a letter code on the end. Ray

So, based on what I've seen, this hose nipple attaches to a hose that runs to the low rear bumper side of the throttle body. I just took a look at my car, and my throttle body does not have a nipple at this location. Am I correct?

If you only have one vacuum port on the distributor can, then the port should be the advance side (outboard of distributor shaft). The advance port should connect to the FRONT side of the throttle body.

Sounds like your throttle body is missing the retard port (REAR side) and your vacuum can is also missing the retard port, so you should be okay. How is your idle?

Sounds like you are both spot on. On the 411, the advance nipple on the TB is right next to the idle adjusting screw on the back side of the TB...pointing straight up.
022 905 205 P is the dizzy used on many 1.7L with D-jet including 914's and early 412's. On some models it came with an advance unit with both retard and advance and an adjusting screw on the advance stroke. Those are very nice even if you do not use the retard. Ray
