battery box in an 83 Westy

So whats the trick to pulling the battery from a Vanagon? I got the seat rotated towards the drivers seat to get the most sp[ace to work in, unhooked the terminals, and cant seem to pull the battery from its place. Its cold here, and I'd like to bring the battery inside for the winter. Any suggestions?
