steering damper

does the 411/412 steering damper interchange with another model or even make car? mine is post toasties!

No it has a unique angle on the mounting point of the left end. But....the body is about the same size as others. You can modify one from a type 3 to fit if memory serves. Also, I believe though the room is tight that sme aftermarket dampers can be modified to fit. You generally will have to build an extender bracket to the lect end. Ray

I used a new type 1 (beam-style, not super) gas steering damper from Bilstein on mine. The top screws off and can than be bend in a vice in the proper type 4 direction. Fits exactly the same now and works great! :D

thank you wally! i think after this is fixed, the gas heater is all that needs addressed.

When I get my car out of storage I should take a picture of the damper mod I did. I made a bracket for each and and have twin stock dampers installed next to each other...spoon style. It makes a differnce. Install your single one as is....and when you are under the car take a spare and lay it end to end with whats there. It will be instantly apparent what is needed. Ray

The standard beetle steering damper does not look like it would work since it has a threaded post on the end, but the super beetle one looks like it would if the top screws off and you can bend it. Can someone enlighten me?
