Carpet kit shifter cutout in wrong spot?

Post by sinistervw »

Got a TMI carpet kit for out Hybrid vert. 71 pan and 61 Body. the foot area kit fits from firewall back to rails and side to side. wear panels are in right spot, but the cut out and grommet for the shifter is Way froward...about 6". Were there any VW's with normal pan dimensions, but had the shifter mounting froward more? Or is it a total fluke on TMI's part? All other parts of the kit fit perfect!

Thanks

Jon

Memory tells me the early/late shifters were in different places... IIRC the later ones were further back, and the shifter was straighter.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Did a little Googling, the came up with an example:
SCAT drag-fast straight shifter is for 68-79 models, the angled back one is for <67

I don't recall the offset, but it could explain the issue if they sent you an early carpet kit.
