hy,,ray,, i have 2 questions,, first,, i have a set of ,nos front brake hose ,, date of construction,,1973 by ate,, i can trust this hose for to put on my car ,,or witch the age they are scrap,,,???? no crack ,,new,, secon question,, this brake hose ,,as this pn,,, ate,1/8 ,,3.5399 mm ,, 73 sae,j1401 ,, ( we can buy from ate this pn,,, sae j 1401 ) stanles stell braide or rubber,,, but they sale only full rubber ,, and the original have one section witch ridgid pipe and the rest is rubber,,, my piont is ,it is not betther ,,one section ridgid bolt on caliper or the rubber hose bolt direct on the caliper ,, witch the caliper heat it is not betther one ridgid section ,the ridgid section has a betther oil cooling ,,no,??? i know ,,you said the staless braid is betther ,, i work on that witch the ,,,gas line on the audi200 turbo,, on the audi injector hose ,, staless stell braid hose ,they are the same dimention witch the 412 brake line ,,but this is only one idee to test ,,albert

In response to your first question, I don't have any special knowledge, but knowing how other rubber parts age (tires, fuel hoses), I would not use the old brake hoses even if they are perfect NOS.

YES ubercrap,, they are new,,,nos,, never use ,, but the date on this hoses is ,,1973,, i d,t know the durability of the rubber,, 40 years is too old??? for sure they are betther of my old hoses on my car ( original ) witch the same age ,,and 70k mils ,, and they are not crack ,, may bee a bitt more ridgid ,, i thing that depend the storage ,, in dryed place or not ,, albert

New hoses are available for about $10US. I wouldn't deal with something of questionable worth to save that littel.

you are right ,, my frend ,, i know this line brake are not expensive ,,i can buy that for the same price here,and for the stell braid they are 18.$ each,, but that was by curiosity,, in émergency situation ,, if i d,t can find that fast,, but my secon point was for the full rubber hose ,, many place sale only the rubber hose with no stell section ,, my oppignion is if we have 7-8-10" of stell tubing to the end ,on the calipper side that is betther for to cooling the oil brake ,, on the road ,,but that is only my oppignion,, only the expérience can said more,,oh,,ps,, ate sale the 412 rubber brake line ,,albert

Albert, I think if the lines are flexible and look good after a close inspection with a mag glass that I would use them on my car since they couldn't be worse then the originals that have been out in the elements and exposed to brake fluid... I understand the cost basis to just update to new lines and not worry but I don't really think a failure will happen to a line vs. a caliper seal or cylinder cup or master cylinder without a serious incident to them or very harsh conditions....bill,jr
p.s. I will say that it is a very good idea to upgrade or update or modernize the brake system since stopping is the most important thing since I did have a hard stop from a fast speed and will say a stock setup like my car did give me the second of "Whoa is she stopping" but she did actually without a skid! They are manual brakes!

,,yes bill,, the oder day wend i remain my calipper ,,i have find the old oil mix with the wather,, this wather come from the condensation during the cold temp and witch hard braking on the hy way,, if the oil heat and if the weather is cold that make umidity in the brake line and afther if we have the contamination in the oil ,we d,t can compress to the perfection the oil brake ,and if we have contamination in the brake line ( air or wather ) we have soft brake pedal,,albert

They make stainless braided brake hoses for superbeetles. I used those from my 1303 when I swapped them for braided ones that reached untill the caliper. Now the original braided ones are on the 412. Fits fine
