Does anyone remember this beetle. Dorgit you wanted to know how big you can build a waterboxer, well how does 2.8ltr sound to you. Yes this beast is back.

Can't tell if it's wasser or oxy. Which?

Building a 2.8 oxy; easy. A wasser? Ehh, not so much.

I've found this info on another forum:

A WBX with a huge turbo:

86x101,6
JE custom pistons.
5.5 H-beams
Engle tsc 20 cam wit 1.3 rockers
OEM heads with offcentre guides. Big valves, thin stems.
Dry sump.
Dual trottle boddies on custom on-off intakes.
Big Charge cooler
EFI tecnology injection.

The info did'nt came from the owner but some one who seems to know
something about it.

Besides this info I know that the cylinders is homemade alu and the heads looks like stock castings. I.ve only seen the car in action a couple of times but I'm thrilled by it every time, this car is awesome !!!

updated specs

Post by carsten bb »

Hi .
I also wondered why nobody would reply on this! This is the correct forum for this engine! :-)

The specs are from a older setup, there have been some changes:

Tor Øyvind Skinne started this Engine concept with the big wasserboxer many many years ago. the first engine was a 2.5L using stock nitrided crank and 101,6 pistons, good heads and mild cam, resulted in +/-600 Hp in the last evolution. This engine was sold, and now lives as a street engine in Norway.
The new engine also has had many changes over the last years, mainly due to weak links like rods and cranks... This is now sorted out and the engine holds together good and has taken alot of beating on the dyno.

Tor Øyvind Skinne does alot of engines and headporting with matching camshafts.

Updated specs:

Custom Turbo, Specs by T.Ø. Skinne ( came with a label "NOT recomended" from the supplier, but it WORKS! (correct specs for this engine))

86x101,6
JE custom pistons.
Custom steel cylinders
5.5 Pauter rods
Custom cam after T.Ø. Skinnes specs. matched for the heads.
1.3 rockers Pauter
ACM heads with offcentre guides. Big valves, thin stems.
Pauter Dry sump.
Dual trottle boddies on custom on-off intakes.
Big Charge cooler
Autronic SM4 injection.

Looking for the 8!?

I am going to say something and it's very true. The guy's in the USA would not think of building an engine like this and if they do they it's not someone related to this website so you don't hear about it. We need more guys from Europe posting here.

I totally agree with you... !
I think that there is alot of development of own ideas/solutions and parts going on in europe. The T4 engines made in europe in like 1980 for rally and street is a good example of that.
Its alot more than just buying the "correct" parts and bolt together that makes a good engine.

know what you mean, i'm no expert but i enjoy the problem solving part of it much more than paying for stuff that is already made.

at the moment i'm working on solving a couple of conversion problems with the wbx so it would be easyer to keep all the stock components and cost down.

An idea i had sometime ago was to convert the type4 head to water cooled similar to a 959 porsche and run that on the road. I was pleasantly surprised to know that this was done already by a member here on the forum by the name of Frallan. He sent me sometime ago diagram of the head work he did but the only problem i have is the fact that he made the exhaust ports similar to a type1 engine.

season is over

Post by carsten bb »

Hi!

The season is over here in Norway, we are waiting for the snow to fall... :D

The car is going through some minor changes, and the engine is opened up for check-up. everything looks nice. So the combination is working.

The girlfriend that drove the car many years ago is now an ex-girlfriend. So the car is driven by a friend of Tor Øyvind.
