I need to change my leaky pushrod seals as I'm getting oil from them and the leaky rocker gaskets working it's way into my heat exchangers and consequently can't use them because the car fills with blue stinky smoke.

I've read the manuals and other links on the internet and the general theme seems to be cleanliness, making sure all the crap is removed before refitting the new seals. I've also had this stuff recommended to me Hylomar Universal blue non-setting gasket and jointing compound to help prevent any new leaks.

Is it worth/advsable using anything like hylomar and what other things should I check whilst doing the work.

Use the curil T adhesive...or I think its close to the same aspermatex teflon based pipe dope.
Make sure you get teh green and or brown viton seals. Dump teh black or bright red ones. The dark orange ones are fine as well they are silicone. Do a search on PR tube seals. Much info. Clean the bores up with solvent and scotch brite. Do not remove any metal.

I have also had perfect luck with very high temp elastic RTV like permatex copper. But you must be very sparing, clean and careful in how you install it to be absolutely sure that no silicone gets into the interior.
The trick is that the outer end stays put in the head. The inner seal with the wide groove is meant to slide or stretch in the case bore so that the PR can expand with the expansion of the engine with heat. Its a sliding joint. Ray
