I came across this photo of the VW Concept D the other day, it was shown at various motorshows prior to the launch of the Phaeton, basically it is like a fastback Phaeton.
Anyway, look at the window line, isn't it very similar to that first seen with the 411 fastback? It got me to thinking how much more interesting and possibly appealing the Phaeton would have been if it had been sold as a fastback, with a Porsche Flat-6 or Audi V8 stuffed in the back!!
Maybe they could have called it the Volkswagen New 411

Well, the Phaeton has such astounding similarities - marketing wise - with the type 4, ist almost scary.
You would have thought they would have learned from past experiences (read marketing failures)?
Guess not.
Sad thing is that the phaeton is a very good a car as was the type 4 in its days, but it still won't sell either.

I agree with you Walter... VW shouldn't be in this area...
If I had the money to buy such a car, it wouldn't be a volkswagen. (no, no, I'm not leaving the area... yet... haha)
If you look at the total amount of brands at the VW concern it is a strange choice to position this car under the name VW. It is a direct opponent of the Audi A6 or A8.
