Howdy gang,

Correcting things, & I've got most of the breather hose routing for my 73 412 automatic figured out, via posts here, including ray's PCV fix to a fixed 3mm orifice.

Two slight uncertainties based on the pic in this thread:

On the left side of the bay there's a black hose that runs from a fitting on the fan housing through the firewall to the charcoal can (I believe.) On the right side of the bay there is visible a small loop of hose visible to the left and under the air clear, which I think must run from the dirty side of the cleaner through the firewall to the outlet of the charcoal can.

Let me know if I've got that right.

If there is a decel valve where would it physically be located? I know where the trans oil pressure switch is. Would the decel valve have both vacuum connections and electrical connections? If anyone's got a pic of one it'd be greatly appreciated.

If this is an automatic it might have the electric decel valve and it would be located on the left side of the engine compartment firewall about 6" aft of the MPS. It would normally "T" in where the green hose to the throttle dash pot goes. Ray

Correct. Return from canister goes to bottom half of air cleaner.

The decel valve has electrical and vacuum. Its similar shape as fuel pressure regulator, but smaller and mounted to mps bracket in left corner of engine compartment.

The car's at the shop presently, had the motor rebuilt; they're not clear on the routing. In fact they've got the head vents plumbed into the charcoal can.

By the way.....I ahve numerous times been able to get rid of the throttle dashpot and use a vacuum operated decel valve with an automatic transmission.

Its really odd, but not all of the automatics used an electric decel valve. My 72 411 four door had an automatic. It used a manual vacuum operated valve that bracketed off of the MPS bracket. The vacuum T'd in along with the dashpot or throttle kicker.
The funny thing is that the throttle kicker Dashpot and decel valve actually do the exact same thing, except that the decel valve IIRC correctly is for decel over 2,500-3.000 rpm and the dashpot is for lower rpm' decel...primarily to keep revs up just slightly as the torque converter and clutches decouple as you come to stop at a light and drop your foot off the gas.

The throttle kickers are difficult on some cars to tune to run perfectly..depending on if you have any mods at all. I have been able to successfully just remove the throttle kicker on most cars. You end up with a slightly higher idle but it runs just fine.

A great many of the throttle kickers leak internally and you never know it. This is one of the things that will make a throttle dashpot slow and difficult to adjust. Ray
