Hi do's any one know
Is it a good Engine to put in a fiberglass dunebuggy
I have a running 1700cc W engine and was thinking of puting it in my fiberglass dunebuggy.
Has anyone done this yet and how did it work.

you might want to try posting this in the
type 4rum... more traffic and only about the T4 engine not the 411/412 model, specifically. maybe the
off road forum too...
i guess the T4 engine is popular with the baja/off road crowd for its better cooling/oil system (oil cooler location & full flow replaceable oil filter cartridge, etc.) and case life (aluminum, not magnesium)...if your engine code is
W i think that means it came from a bus, which means low-compression pistons...

Hi I looked it up on the internet and it said it is out of a porche 914
I did the comprestion and it was 150lb on all 4 but I don't know if that is good or not.

I'm going to move this to the Type 4rum, as you will find the answers to your question there. The 411/412 Forum is for the Type 4 cars in general, but the Type 4rum is specifically for the Type 4 engine in all of it's forms.

One of our offroad regulars here compares a 1700 type 4 to an 1835 type 1 in a buggy. Very reliable, good power, and the best part, inexpensive. Upgrades for later? The sky is the limit!

That compression reading shows 4 very healthy cylinders!

Just put in in the buggy, pick a cooling setup, and enjoy the results!
If you could please also mention your buggy in the Off-Road forum too, we love them!!!
