Wiper switch, '67 bug

Post by landrocket »

Hi guy's, I am a newbie and usually post in that section. I was trying to tighten the wiper switch and for the life of me can't figure how to. It works, but kind of flops around and I am afraid it is going to fall out or jam. Thanks for any input!!! Ron p.s. This might sound dumb, but has anybody installed a simple rheostat, as a switch so as you increase voltage they go faster, that way you have intermittent wipers, sort of ?

This is used to hold the switch tight.

Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

The problem with using an inline resistor to control wiper speed is that it can get quite hot. You'd still need to retain the stock switch in order for the park function to work properly, anyway.
Your `67 should have 2-speed wipers stock, if you need more options than that you'd probably be happiest with an interval control. These were common in the aftermarket ~30 years ago when new cars started to come out with interval wipers, still available at a few places:

A little funky because you've got to mount it under the dash somewhere, but it'll do the job.

If you need a new switch or want to have a cleaner installation, here's an option to consider:

Between Off and Low positions it has a variable intermittent-wipe feature (up to 20 seconds delay).
It also includes a push-to-wash contact for wiring in an electric washer pump; press on the knob and the wipers automatically sweep three times.
I want to run it for a while before I start offering them for sale to the public, but stay tuned.
You'd also need to add an electric washer pump (either an aftermarket setup or something raided from the boneyard - the Rabbit bottle/pump setup works well). The switch knob doesn't look stock, but IMO it doesn't look too bad:
