Reduction Box IRS setup

Been lurking for quite a while and doing quite a bit of reading through the archives. While my Thing body is at the paint shop, I've been researching moderm rear suspension setups. During this process, I looked in detail at the Hummer setup with its IRS reduction box setup. Just wondering if anyone here at attempted something similiar. I do recall seeing a Baja with an IRS reduction setup on TheSamba once, but that's about it. My goal is to center my wheels in the wheel housing by adapting the reduction boxes to a modified IRS trailing arm and add some ground clearance while I'm at it. An additional benefit of this setup would be a reduction of the angle of the cv joints therefore aiding in their longevity. I've already contacted a machine shop that can modify the stock reduction box axles and some bearing support and an IRS flange.

I realize that it would be easier just to install longer trailing arms to center the wheels, but I just want to do something a little different.

Comments - flames, encouragement, advice - all are welcome!

I say do it. The idea is sound but I don't like the weight penalty over a more plain "yawn" conversions.
