small rust spot

i have a small rust spot just ahead of the rear fender in the rocker panel. what is the best way to approach this problem? i know it will be the size of a dollar when i start scratching at it.
new top is on k-man thanks much for the vidio.

Use baking soda in your hand held sand blaster.

its rusted through. sorry for the confusion, and i don't want to mess with it until i hear some definitive answers about this kind of fix. i don't know too much about cars.

Baking soda will strip paint, remove rust, and is great for working in small areas it won't damage glass or rubber. Since it is rusted thru make a patch panel and weld it in, after blasting.

should i use a rust stopping chemical in that area? are they effective and worth the effort. i used a product called por 15 on the tank.

POR-15 works great for this application. I use it all the time with great success. There are other products that work in the same way. I just use POR-15
