Vanagon surging/stalling

I am having issues with my vanagon 2.1L
I am sure it is in the dizzy??
I had the heads "reset" the other day (early December)
They had been leaking so we took the heads off and put new sealant there and all was well for a month
Obviously for this the manifolds etc etc all had to come off
As i said - all was well for a while
When this was done the mechanic showed me that the connector to the distributor was dodgy so he put some cable ties around the distributor to hold in place.
In the last 2 days it has started missing and stalling
I am sure it is the connector as if you have a "bit of a fiddle" it will run fine again for a little while (5 mins to a day)
Symptons are worse case - stalling
More common is not responding to throttle
Mainly on take off
a) does this sound like distributor trouble
b) new dizzys seem hard to come by. Can i wack a 009 in there?? or a 009 with electronic ignition??
Thanks
Barry
