Headlights died

AS soon as i fix one thing another problem creeps up! Got the engine problem fixed, bad points, took the car out to try it out, headlights die. I checked the dimmer relay, its good. If i press the dimmer switch the lights flash, but do not stay on. If i hold the dimmer switch it blows the fuse to the relay. Any ideas?
