You mean for the dealer installed air conditioning? I haven't seen anything like that before. By the way, the original artwork for the manual on the right was for sale on everyone's favorite online auction site a while back!

There is no manula for the AC. I have worked with both systems. You have the better condensor model of the two fitted. Though I hate the fact that they hacked the spare tire well...that double layer condensor with fan worked well. The stock york or borg warner axial piston compressor was bulletproof....but robbed gobs of power. Personally I would fab a custom bracket and get a very modern compressor from something like a new Jetta....with an electronic evaportator valve. It would only use about 2/10's to about 1/2 hp while idleing. They have variable piston stroke that changes with rpm and refrigerant pressure.
Put new r-134a seals in everything all around and a new dryer...and a new compressor and unloader valve....and this shoudl work sweet. Ray

The A/C is powered by a V-belt pulley hidden behind the engine cooling fan. Kind of rinky dink. The biggest problems with the A/C is that a very high number of the compressor installs I have seen compromise the integrity of the engine compartment seal.

Yes....there wre two basic compressor models. One was York and I "think" the other was a borg warner. One of the two was physically smaller and was identical to what came on many type 3's. That one fit completely under the sheet metal and did not give any problems. The other was taller and had the hoses coming off the top of the head and they were too high. The dealers would just hack a hole in the left side corner plate for things to fit. It was ugly. Ray
