please help my ive looked everywhere

ok ive looked around and have got very many helpful hints on how to upgrade a wasserboxer in a bug but none completely telling me how to set it in . i have a 1.9 watercoold vanagon engine dh code i believe. i have a 72 bug with irs trans removed.i tried setting the trans on the engine but it didnt push in all the way, once i took the pressure plate off it pushed the rest of the 1/4th inch in . the spines are correct. i believe the flywheel goes in far enough to be spun by a starter (dont have one yet) i just need help on how to get the engine and trans together so once i set the trans back in it will be easy to do the engine... also i know how i want to set the radiatior but what or all hoses do i use ie. i dont need inside bug warming i just want engine coolng thank you and please try to help my insane mind

What clutch assembly are you using?
The two I would consider is the 215mm wasser or the aftermarket 200mm version.
Normally the 228mm is not considered with the beetle bell housings due to the PP hitting the tranny.

thank you for your help . second i was thinking of using a honda civic radiatior is that too small also will have the honda electric fan mounted on the inside of the decklid with hole cut outfor breathing

o i forgot do i use the same flywheel or do i have to get one to match the 215mm

even with a Bugpack 200mm flanges and a 2100 pound clutch, I had to grind on a mendeola to get it to clear.
You can grind the rivets slighty, but you will have to grind the inside of the tranny housing. I am certain a 228mm will fit. I also ground the trans throwout sleeve at the base ridge so the throw out bearing goes back a little farther. The fat outer cover of the assembly hits, take a string centered on the imput shatf that is the same distance as the center of the assembly to the end of the outer face of the assembly, and rotate it 360 degrees. this will show you where you need to grind the high spots I wouldnt by a 200mm adapter flywheel and an expensive clutch just yet. A 228mm is better than a 1700 pound clutch 200mm. You can even use a stock vanagon 228mm clutch with a feramic disc for a 250 horse drag motor. If you mount up the trans just until the motor starts to bind while turning the crank, it will leave an impression. Clean the inside of the trans bell housing and paint it black, anywhere ther is shiny metal, it needs to be ground a little. Repeat until the motor clears...

Whatever flywheel you use, you need the matching cover (the bolt hole PCD changes with the size).
With a late beetle bell housing, you should be able to use a 215mm wasser clutch assembly with only the pilot bearing modification.

Trust me, it's WELL worth the effort

I used a 215mm with a needle bearing fitted.
With a modified 2.1 running 120hp it's been fine for hard street use.

228 clutch in with lots of grinding but spins freely now . now for fuel injection wiring and to put the engine and irs back in
