Hello bus people - hope you can assist.

I bought a 79 bus without an engine and two fuel tanks. Picked up a 77 or 78 carburated 2.0L and figured out one tank was for FI and the other didn't have the extra ports coming out of it. So, I'm under the impression that I will not be installing the FI tank, but will I be using the lines that go up into the fuel overflow traps that in the upper risers in the rear of the bus (area of air flow inlets on the side).

This may sound trivial, but I didn't remove the engine or did I see how the engine I bought was removed. The bus is pretty sweet and in great condition for the age. I'm very mechanical and would love to have a little guidance. All the pics of these great pieces of work catching on fire, definitely is a concern.

You certainly need to vent the tank properly. I would use whichever tank appears the cleanest inside, you can always just plug off the extra port on the FI tanks. I don't know that it matters which nipple you use on the FI tank, maybe others can chime in. I don't like the outlet screen on the carburated tank, I would remove the screen and use a filter before the fuel pump if I used that tank.

use whichever tank is in better shape. i would treat it while its out. I have a 77 i whent from FI to carbs on it, and it had a lot of clogging issues w/ rust or junk in the tank. when I went carbs instead of plugging the return line i Ted them together, so when one clogged i could still draw fuel from the other one. I also installed a fuel cutoff due to all my engine dropping and clogged filters, totally worth the 3$ to add it in.
