Nice looking 412 from Canada, BUT isn't this a '73?

Post by steve_1125 »

The link is http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... id=1054205

The bumpers look like they are from a '73 and don't see the airflow meter like the one in my '74 plus the air intake boot is different. Just curious. Thanks! 8)

The dash is late 73 or 74. You can tell by the seatbelt warning light. I cannot tell if it has the 74 only clock (quartz). It has 1974 bumpers. It definately has D-jet.
Its either a late 1973....very late...maybe july or into august....or a 1974 with an easrlier engine in it. Ray

Seems kinda like my car, which came part 73, part 74, and mine is also from canada. built in 8th month of 73 IIRC...
Mine has the '74 clock, '74 gas tank, and everything else is '73 spec including the 1.7 D jet. Registered as a '73 btw.

I was going to guess that the manual trans. equipped cars probably retained the 1.7/D-Jet in '74 in Canada, but had most of the rest of the '74 features, like the 2dr. sedans/coupes in the U.S. but Albert says standard was 1.8 for '74 in Canada? Was it standard for automatic and manual, though?

I have fairly commonly seen mixed 412's that dated to late july, August and september of 1973. Ray

My '74 has bumper guards identical to the one in the attached

Was that an option? Thanks!

I beleive they were installed at dealers but cant be sure. That is Chris Hobb's car. He spends lots of time working on his vehciles. It should be a sweet car. Ray

Thanks Ray, my front is almost a mirror of Hobb's, also Alaska Blue with bumper guards but no fog lights. Albert indicated the body in the ad I asked about was '74, what are the differences? I had thought the bumper guards were relevant but that may have been a dealer option. It is also interesting that certain '74s still came with DJet. So are the LJet 412s rarer? I find this all pretty interesting. Not sure if it is all answerable but thank all of you for your time!

That car was only about 10 minutes from me. I was tempted to go check it out but for what he was asking coupled with I don't like to jerl buyer's chains, I opted not to.
