I would like to tap a ground lead into the driver's side door switch and extend the new ground lead into the trunk. Is there a wiring route from inside the driver's side door pillar (behind the door switch) to the trunk?

I installed LEDs in both footwells and under the rear shelf of my '71 Ghia to improve interior lighting at night, and I want to tie into the door switch circuit so that the LEDs will turn on / off when either door opens / closes.

After some research, it appears there are two answers to my question: wiring route from drivers' door switch to trunk?

1. There does not appear to be a direct route from the door pillar into the trunk. However, there is an indirect route through a small opening on the inside of the driver's inner fender panel, just to the right of the door switch, into the cabin and then up through the air ventilation tube opening under the dash and into the trunk.

2. It does not matter. There is no need to tie my LED lighting ground circuit directly to the driver's door switch, which grounds when either the passenger's or driver's door opens. I can just tap into the passenger side door switch ground wire, which runs across the trunk / behind the dashboard and over to the driver's side door switch, and complete my ground circuit that way. Both the driver and passenger side door switch circuits are interconnected, and both complete the ground circuit when just one door is opened.
