Hi. Just fitted a new gearbox to the splitty and almost ready to put the wheels back on. I filled each reduction box with about 0.25 litre and topped the gearbox up til the oil started seeping through the filler hole.
Anyway the axels are only being suspended by the shock and swing arm so the tubes are pointing in a downward angle as the back end is still on stands.
Problem is that I'm getting gear oil leaking out the overflow hole at the back of the backing plate and also through the bearing down the stub axel.
Is it because of the axel position? Will it sort itself out when it's back on it's wheels or have I done something wrong?
Thanks
Leaky hubs/axels.

are the axle nuts torqued? this made mine leak like a sieve till i realized the PO had never actually torqued the axle nuts, w/o torque there is no seal. mine was SA but no redux, not sure it makes a difference.

not a drop since. one axle nut was about 15 ftlbs, the other one was wiggling, held on only by the cotter pin.
swing axle is still new to me, but on what I got, loose (or no) drums will make em weep/leak. just don't tilt the car with it like that, or you'll get a flood.

keep wiping and wait? it could take a long time for junk that thick to all come out. there are like three super similar threads, all leaking for different reasons, in different forums right now. VW ssaid it was normal for some oil to come out, wet on the backingplate is ok, a line of oil is not.
