complete wing or not?

Post by Philpsy »

hello,

new to the gang, so apologies for being wet behind the ears, but always taught 'if ya dont ask ya dont know'

is it possible to get a complete wing section as a repair panel. basically trying to restore my 61 RHD, and it needs the sides doing.
however, it appears to have been repaired with lots of filler, and i'd like to get it back to being solid.
have seen repair panels, but not complete sections.
i need the front and rear wings (fenders)

any help appreciated

cheers

Hi Philpsy,

Both the Porsche 356 and the Ghia are hand made, one piece, welded bodies.

No bolt-on wing/fenders.

But ... what body shops do is get a wrecked Ghia and cut away the whole front or rear section (what we call a "clip" here), cut away your damaged area, and weld it all back together.

With the advent of unit body cars over the years, the clip repair has become fairly common, even with those which have replaceable wings, as the basic unit body underneath becomes salvageable with this technique.

This place sells fiberglass clips. http://vwinnovations.com/ghia.html#never
On my Ghia I welded in the lower rust repair sections and hammered out the top the best I could.
I got my body parts from http://www.karmannghia.com/

Hi Jackrbns142,

No steel wing/fenders available separately. It has to be cut off a wrecked Ghia.
