Oxyboxer bearing progress

Post by 3literboy »

Well, I lucked out. I went to my "Nuts and bolts" store and found a "machine washer" that fits the O/D of a chrysler bearing perfectly. All I have to do is cut it in half and dress the I/d just a little with diegrinder and sanding roll.

I had the crankshaft center main widened to 1.100 with .010 coming from the thrust surface towards the #3 journal. Another .035 came off the other thrust surface.

I mocked up the crank in my old case that had type 4 bearings and then checked axial distances.

I believe in order to use the 2.2 liter chysler thrust bearing, I will have to take off .024 off the #2 journal thrust which faces #3 journal. Then in order to use the .135 Machine washer half as a shim, I will have to take off about .045 on the thrust surface that faces #1 journal. This way the shim drops in. I think I will custom fit ti, and screw it to the thrust also, so it also supports the journal face of the bearing.

Anyways, I will cut #2 and #3 journals to 2.520 and the #1 journal to type 4.

I looked at the bronze thrust insert, but it doesnt support the bearing well enough. I believe the more bearing surface on the mains the better. The Chrysler thrust bearing is by far the best option. A set of bearings is $35 bucks from Rock Auto.

Rimco wants $145 for the linebore. $135 for cutting the center thrust, and $175 to weld up the seal area and cut for 4 inch bugpack flanged crank seal. I will have to bite the bullet and just pay to have it done. I dou have an awesome shim for $4.12 instead of $100 bucks, plus I can replace the main bearings thrusts after grinding the crank etc......
