Motorbreath's Chenowth 2 Seat Play Car

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Well.....we know you didn't build it....

You would have welded that long before it ever fit-up that tight

Not sure how the BAJA body is going to fit though.
It is not Mickey Moused.....It's Desert Engineered!

Looks great Danny. Your gonna have a blast in the dunes with that car!!

Why don't they clean the mill scale before they weld the tubes?

I asked them to not clean the mill scale because I wanted to be sure that someone on the forum had reason to give a thumbs down about the car.

(really, I dunno. Hadn't even thought about it .)

I'm super excited about the car in general... but i'm too picky for my own good. I don't know that i'll ever pay to have another chassis built. It leaves too much for interpretation.

Here's some more current pics of the body going together...

For a logo are you going to have a stylized hippopotamus painted on the sides? There is a lot of history on Hippos:
"...Hanna-Barbera's Peter Potamus, the book and TV series George and Martha, Flavio and Marita on the Animaniacs..." (source: wikipedia on hippopotamus).

There are a lot of how to cartooning help on the hippos also.

That is the race-off. If you build it, you can make your "vision"exactly BUT you will see all of the little imperfections. If someone else builds it, you get an "interpretation" of your vision BUT you don't know where all of those little imperfections are... Basically, you're screwed either way, just enjoy what you have and beat it into submission!

Car looks great, what are the plans once your baby comes home?

Fibertec in Santee has the bender, and all the jigs from Chenowth.
Its all 4130. MIG Chassis, TIG suspension.

The deal was basically for a "roller" chassis and body. They built the shock mounts, and steering (rack mount/tie rods), and trans mounts.

I'll be responsible for the steering column, tabbing, wiring, plumbing etc...

First order of buisness when I get it home will be:

Mock up seats.
Climb in Seat.
Open Beer.
Drink beer.
...remind myself I want to drive it this season.

...then...

Finish the mounts for this:

build another one of these... (or just steal the one thats still in my garage...JOE. )

Wiring will be a moderfy'd version of what was in DG's baja... (everything but switches is in the mail to me already)

So, Clint... If I have it at home by Aug 1, do you think we could get it to the night run?
