Anyone know where it goes....Nedd HELP.

Post by MrGolf »

Two connections out the back of the air cleaner. Large one goes to carbon canister. Little one below it comes out to a T. One goes to carbon canister too. Other one is plastic. It must have come from loose from somewhere but I looked for over 2 hrs and see no place where it goes too.

It crazy that because of the length of it that I see no place for it to connect to. Notice the steel insert in the end. Thought it micht have went into another hose but there is nothing. Thanks

that is wrong, there should be no T on the airbox. Unless the T should be at the far end, been a while since I had to fight vac leaks, my memory fails.

Internet, to the rescue!

Was at that sight last night. No clear picture of hose routing from back of air cleaner for that smaller hose. Anyone have a 76 westy that could look at there's and tell me how it goes. Thanks

Ok, those lines are Supposed to go

Code: Select all

Air Cleaner ---Tee fitting above distributor----Throttle body
                            ^
                            ^
                       Distributor
make sense? the T fitting has three hoses on it, the short one to the dizzy.

Fron the dizzy there is one solid hose straight fron there to the throttle body. No T in that line. Have had the van for 12 years but never really paid attention to those hoses as I never removed the AFM. Got my Bently manual today. Will take a look and see if they show anything. I do not thin the line I can not find a place for is for vac anaway. ??????????

Add the T, it is missing.

Tried to draw the way it is now and also what you are suggesting. It makes sense but then I will need a hose to the small fitting on the right side of the carbon canister. Do I buy another "T" so I have a line going to there too. Scan 1 is the way it is now. Is scan 2 what you mean? Ratwells page says small line on carbon canister goes to fuel tank breather line which leads to gas tank. Do you know where that is located. If I can find it I will run small hose on right side of carbon canister to it. and then redoo the T like we discussed.

From Ratwell for the carbon canister:

Big hose right - oil bath goes to air filter
Small hose right - goes to fuel tank breather lines which lead to gas tank
Big hose left - goes to hole on tin just behind ignition coil

For the rest of the system:

This image is for a late 76, there is also a routing diagram for earlier ones available. There are slight changes between an automatic bus and a manual bus as well.

Thanks,
I have looked at this before. They said the small hose right goes th the fuel tank breather line. What they are referring to is the small line on the right side of the csrbon canister just above the large hose not shown in the picture. Need to know where the fuel tank breather line is located.

The fuel tank breather lines run up each side of the pillars and then come down and join at a "T" right inside the engine compartment doors. The third leg of the "T" goes to the carbon canister.
