Schadek oil pump-fits so badly.
Seriously, what's with the loose fit of these pumps? Just bought one of these to replace the cheap Autopumps one I had fitted before. So loose by comparison. I see now why everybody seems to fit o rings to them. There's got to be a better alternative.

^^^^^^^This, every time, they are as good as it gets at 26mm, just a little 'blue print' to help load more oil onto the lower gear for any hypo use. that shadek pump is out of tolerance and needs returning tho, personly, im fed up with the supply of crap after market parts we constantly get supplied with, its everything, it all need close scrutiny, do return it and moan.type411 wrote:The stock pumps.

You can't use a stock pump with an after market cam can you?
By "blue printing" I assume you mean adjusting the gear to cover clearance and matching the ports to the casing. Correct?
You wouldn't think it would be that hard to make a pump the correct size would you?

Re: Schadek oil pump-fits so badly.
only if you've changed to a 3 bolt cam/camwheel, it needs the shorter pump, but the difference is moved rearwards, so its thicker and can interfere with the engine support bar etc.. regarding blue printing, give it a google, it can go on a bit.busboy1303 wrote:You can't use a stock pump with an after market cam can you?

Yeah that's pretty much what I thought.
Did the Google search, and look where it brought me back to,

http://www.billsbangers.com/vwbilltodd/oilpumps.html some Good info here, but T1 related.
See were it states,"dont waste your time with a loose fitting pump",

Re: Schadek oil pump-fits so badly.
I agree with t "O" ring, it works great. I have been putting the pump with the O-ring installed in the case before the halves are tightened down, I've never tried sliding one in after the case is together. I don't know if that will work. Another option is aluminum shim stock cut and carefully fitted. Beer cans are about .007" thick, they seemed too thick.
What I'd really like to know is the OD of NOS stock pumps, type 1, type 4, and Wasser. Are they EXACTLY the same OD? It would be best to get numerous readings so we can develop information about the factory tolerances.
Armed with this information, one can set expectations with the supplier-- "If it's less than x.xxx" OD, you're getti'n it back!"
Schadek is ISO9000, meaning they might be very good about making the pumps all the same -- but to the wrong specification bless their hearts....

Re: Schadek oil pump-fits so badly.
Sounds like a plan!
I have to say, this Schadek pump I have is really nicely machined. I can see why people use them. Being too loose in the casing is not good though. I'm pretty sure if I returned it for another, that one would be exactly the same. So, faced with the option of fitting a cheap alternative that I know fits better I've decided to get this one machined for an o ring.
It is rather ridiculous how we need to modify new parts to get them fit for purpose.

the stock WBX pumps come in differrent sizes to fit the case.
you can see they are marked ex: 2C

The o-ring thing. Just in case anyone did not understand what a o-ringed pump is. Set up in my fixture. Dial in the OD of the body, make the cut to add the o-ring. .

Re: Schadek oil pump-fits so badly.
I have a depressing theory that were to spec'd too small to make it "easier/faster" to install for hi volume assembly sweatshops.
The orings work, I'm even running a double oringed 28mm Melling.
(second oring just inside the flange for case seal to preclude the usual iron-pump drippage)
I did neuter it a bit, reduced pressure capability a bit with Chevy-style "pressure balance" grooves.
Doesn't really hurt the volume.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: Schadek oil pump-fits so badly.
Interesting that this subject came up.
Been suffering from oil draining back into the sump creating an airlock on start up.
I've blue printed a schadek 30mm pump but it only produces good pressure until oil temps reach 90-100.
I think the two issues relate to a poor fit inside the case.
I'm liking the idea of a o-ringed pump as I think this will solve my issues, but sadly no one supplies these in the UK that I can find.
I have a friend skilled with a lathe but it looks tricky to setup for cutting
