City Baja II

Well, some sad news. My girl's daily driver '73 got totaled... It was parallel parked on the street and some punk hit it from the rear with his grandparent's car. He said his foot hit the gas instead of the brake... He pushed the bug into the back of the car ahead of it. He proceeded to tell me that his grandpa knows a good 'bumper guy.' Yeah right!

Insurance car totaled the poor thing. Initially it looked like it was just the hood/decklid and bumpers. Further investigation showed that both aprons were twanged, some fenders tweaked and the body above the rear fender where the drip rail comes down! After I pried the decklid off of the crank pulley and got it running it ran terrible! I think part of the car got pushed into the motor and dislodged a head or something because the LH valve cover bail was just dangling there. Too bad because this was a nice car.

Time to baja the little car! I have a spare motor and some bumpers to throw at it and I will use the old 4 lug wheels from my other car.

This car will most likely go up for sale once completed... An '08 black Mini Cooper S 6speed manual has already taken the VW's place so she won't be driving the baja... (That turbo mini is a rocket ship and handles awesome! I can't see the stoplights when waiting for the light though.)

Wow, glad she wasn't in the car when that happened! I worry quite a bit about my soon to be wife driving her '74 Super daily for almost 10 years now. I survived a pretty solid T-bone in my Dad's old '66 baja. Being lighter than most other vehicles helps a lot I think...unless you're sandwitched between 2 much heavier ones :( . Perfect baja donor though :D

A Baja with late trans mounts isn't really much of a Baja...strap kit?

I saw a lot of old VW's parked in the street when I was in Seattle in January...some with moss growing on them! I just looked through my pics, though, didn't snap a pic of yours.

Herbie, that is one of the two (that I know of anyway) symbols of infinity so you can watch it forever and other than dumbing you up to your eyebrows, it will not hurt you. Oh, and keep a drool wipe handy!

Chris: Trans strap kit is in the plans...

I am really glad that no one was hurt!

I got the rear torsions twisted up this weekend. It is lightly sitting on the stops but, I am hoping it will settle some. Rear fenders are trimmed, new fender beading and reinstalled. Also got the motor running! Rear wheels/tires and possibly a bumper are this weekends goals.
