Any tips on replacing the 2 rubber master cylinder grommets?

I have a 1973 (non Super) Beetle with a dual circuit master cylinder.
I want to replace the two rubber grommets on top of it.
Would it be best to remove the master cylinder and turn it upside down to replace those grommets so any crumbs from the old grommets will not fall into the master cylinder ?
I was not planning on removing the m.c. to replace the grommets.
I was going to apply a little brake fluid to the 2 grommets.
Then carefully twist the plastic tubes and hope the grommets come out in one piece.
Then apply a little brake fluid to each new grommet, insert the plastic tube, and carefully twist it into place.
Any help is appreciated!
TIA!
