Turbo 69' street bug

Post by Rodv8 »

Hi guys im Rod. Been into bugs on and off for 11 years and now that I have time, money, and place I built this rather quickly starting on the day I purchased , May 26th 2013. Took 6 months to restore and 2 months to turbo. Im racing it for the first time in one week at Bug O Rama. You guys are very knowledgeable and value you're input. Any advice, tips, or suggestions are greatly im appreciated.

Ill post pictures in a second.

Thanks,
Rod

Preload that trans before launching and burnout if you want it to hold up. Looks like fun! What are the specs on the engine?

Thanks! Engine is stock internals with the hi rev single springs. clutch is kep stg 1 with CF dual friction disc. feels like stock but grabs and scratches 2nd. its running good at 12psi but ive had it to 17psi with 100 octane unleaded race gas. I live in hot weather so 12psi is all for now till water/meth injection is installed. Transmission is stock late model, the old early stock trans spun 4th gear off the shaft, other then that the trans still had 3 gears that worked just fine, just couldnt hold after 15psi. I have only done tuning full throttle pulls so far to get it tuned.

Im scratching my head on ignitions, and trying to make more power. Ive built many 500-800hp cars with EFI and all motor carb setups but this is a first draw through for me, I love the simplicity and ease( used to build 10 sec audis and supras) so being able to pull motor and transmission in 50 mins is a nice change of pace.

Thats funny, I grew up doing the whole draw through thing, and have spent the last 6 years doing everything i can to eliminate carbs from my life. I run efi on my turbo street car.

Sounds like a fun project though. What are you shooting for at Sac? We always ran good out there compared to here in Utah. Its amazing how much altitude can affect performance.

Lol I know efi is great I just wanted a change of pace from technology I guess. Sac has its days of good and bad but bugs hook up well there. Im not getting my hopes up but 14's would be a good starting point. At some point I want efi and built setup but I like pushing stock stuff to its limits
