Does everyone's ghia smell like gas? Any tips to cut down on the gas smell? It's not overwhelming, but it's definitely there.
I should also mention there's a gas smell in the garage after I drive it.
Help, I'm asphixiating!

isn't that usually a sign of worn out heater boxes?

If the smell is of raw gas, it's more likely a problem with the fuel tank vent system (nothing but an overflow tube prior to `68, but more complicated in later years) or simply a leaky tank. A rust pinhole at the low point can let out enough fuel to wet the bottom of the tank and reek without ever leaving a puddle below.

What about the fuel line going through the tunnel? I think sometimes they have been known to have need of replacement.

What ever the problem, you are NOT supposed to smell the gas.

Also, don't forget to look at the soft lines going to the fuel line in the tunnel. One from the gas tank and one from the rear of the fuel line to the engine.

Modern alcohol-mix gasoline eats the original and even replacement lines from 5 years ago for breakfast.
Gates makes a nice Multi-fuel rated SAE30R7, spend the extra dollar and buy the good stuff.
If its a later car with an evap system, it's pretty easy to resurrect, and even the early cars can have it added, all DIY Home depot bits.
(There is a detailed thread on that)
It is comparatively easy to get a functional evap system, which will help somewhat (later) even if the main issue is a rusted out line.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Hi Dixiegem,
What year Ghia do you have?
For you to smell gas strongly inside the cabin, ir might be right on the other side of your dash. Check the elastic coupling between the gas tank and filler neck.
If you smell gas more right after a fillup, look to your gas cap gasket. Gas can surge into the filler neck and leak out around the cap.
A highly likely problem is a leaky gas line under the fuel tank. The oil lines rot and crack.
Also, do check the fuel lines to and from the fuel pump.
