buying after market gauges

My gauges on my 1971 look terrible......I want to buy new gauges but, do not know
if I can buy a after market fuel gauge that would be compatible with the ghia's fuel tank sending unit. Anyone have experience with this? The ammeter, oil pressure & volt meter I do not think
would be a problem.

Thanks Don :)

I am not getting any responces so let me ask a different question......What is the
low/high ohm reading of the sending unit? :)

Not ignoring you, I'm sure Marc knows that off the top of his head.
The stock Ghia sender is IIRC as you note a resistive unit and can be made work on MANY aftermarket heads.
Only one caution: You tend to get what you pay for.

The "word" of the day is: Dakota Digital.

Above my personal pay grade but awesome quality.

Full disclosure: I'm highly biased against most off the shelf analog gauges: most any gauges I might buy at this point are going to be canbus, and actually calibrate-able, I'd rather have nothing than have to guess. I'd rather duct tape my laptop to my dash than suffer pretends-to-be-accurate instrumentation.

Marc just postd/linked to a more complete description, apparently on ghias you may have resistance type or balance coil... I'm pretty sure Dakota Digital can set you up either way.

The are the gauges I am going to use in my 70 Coupe. Clearly have to modify the dash. Yet has all info I need, and the speedo is gps driven..

The great thing about the gauges I posted is that it has all the lights for hazards, oil, generator, etc. All the other gauges don't offer that so you have to get creative. These are much cleaner and set up for our type of wiring as well as our engines as the Porsche 356 used a variant of our beloved 1600cc..

Wise man.
Usually said as "You Go First"...

You get what you pay for. Sometimes.
Sometimes you get pretty dash filler that pretends to be actual instrumentation, for ~the cost of actual instrumentation.

My '72 "Amber" is at House of Ghia for a makeover this winter. I'm looking at dash layout options. I'm open to something period correct using the two big holes and adding gauges either in place of the radio or under the dash. I'm also open to having them hack a large hole and start with a clean slate or a combination unit.

I neglected to take good pictures so I can test layouts before deciding.

If someone can give me the gauge diameter I can probably scale something from photos on the net.

This unit from Dakota Digital looks good, but I don't know if a Ghia can handle a 5" x 10" unit.

They look great but, the price is also great.
I am leaning to autometer gauges.
