These are the shorter ones, right?
.000373 seconds of Googling indicates that they appear to take MK1 Golf//rabbit inserts.
... although the valving might be a tad stiff, as the weight bias on a Golf is ~opposite of any T1.
Bilstein could probably roll you some suitably revalved MK1 inserts for a reasonable charge, if not free (revalve)
There are other options as well, Toplines inserts may very well fit the EMPI struts.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: shocks for adjustable struts
from the google search i understood that although the MK1 inserts are the correct diameter and length they might not fit due to the shape of the strut. just wanted to make sure if anyone had experience with upgrading them and could point me in the right direction

Re: shocks for adjustable struts
Then find out what insert empi uses and cross reference it....
..or abuse your local FLAPS and order a mk1 insert and compare.
Return (never installed) if they don't match up.
A Monroe insert for a Mk1 might even be a reasonable upgrade, depending on your front spring rate.
The EMPI struts are likely a copy of the Topline units, I'm sure they'd do you right on inserts, and would know if they fit.
AFAICT (just from Googling) the lowered struts for curved window supers ARE simply aftermarket Mk1 adjustable struts.
That's why they are so cheap.
