Do you have Zero offset Ercos with disc brakes?

Post by rrcade »

I have zero offset Ercos up front, on a stock beam with drums. I would like to put on 2 1/2"drop spindles AND front disc brakes- is this possible?

If you have accomplished this please let me know how and what brands you used.

I'm hoping this can be done with CB drop spindles and disc brakes as they seem to be one of the lightest and best quality and are a lot cheaper than Airkewlds stuff.

Aren't the CB ones a steel hub? Not super light in my eyes? Never handled one personally though. I have a friend that has Erco 0s up front with Airkewld wide 5s and 2 or 4 piston Wilwoods, but he ended up needing to add a 1/8" spacer to avoid grinding on the calipers. I have the same rims and intend to run the same brakes in the near future. I'll probably just grind on the Wilwoods.

The Hub itself is cast and machined from 356 Aluminum... Heat treated to a T6 rating, then secured to a machined SAE Certified Grey Iron Rotor.(from their site) Airkewld are like 500.00 more, I'm not sure what the different stages are

I wouldn't grind the calipers if I were you. I tried the same thing on my Ghia with those ercos and ended up with a pin hole in the caliper. Not safe

No, I had stock calipers. Ended up using the smallest spacer I could find to run those wheels. I wouldn't want to risk my safety again just to run some wheels. Erco should maybe make a 1mm offset wheel for this issue. They fit excellent on drum brakes though.

This is a hurdle I'll jump when I get there I suppose. I want the biggest calipers I can get and will space or grind as needed. Slowing down a 1900lb car down after a 130mph pass will be taxing on the good old drums

My Airkewld brakes showed up today. 4 piston wilwoods included. Preliminary fitting looks like things might fit. It's gonna be tight, but looks okay so far. Well see what things do once pads are in place.

Had to grind the heck out of the calipers, but everything fits now.
