Vacuum elbow thingie

Post by peter213 »

Does anyone know if, what the photo shows, is a common occurrence with a '74 T2 1800?
I put-putted into my carport in the evening. Everything as it should be.
Next morning the car would hardly run.
After a week of increasing frustration, I found this after a camera hunt.
It's rather important because that same night my security camera's IR was turned off somehow and I have a neighbour with a Narcissistic personality disorder.
Thanks in advance.

Those elbows often fail like this. Back in the day we always kept a drawer full of them handy at the shop...they were a readily-available in-stock item at the local dealer, I suppose they're a bit harder to come by nowadays.
Don't recall the P/N anymore but according to Bus Boys it's 021 129 637C or F (IIRC the RH one had an extra small nipple but you can plug that to use it on the left):

Thanks for that.
The thing is, I hooked it back up and everything went back to normal (i.e. fumes, noise and happy dak-dakking).
So there's nothing wrong with the elbow thingie.
I'm just wondering how it could become disconnected, as it did.
The pic shows how I found it and is also the reason why I found if. (Eyes not so good at 60)
Is there any event which could cause this?

Sorry, in the pic it looked to me as though it had started to split ...guess I was just seeing the mold lines. If it fits snugly, you're done. If it's a little loose, put a Ty-rap (or a small hoseclamp) on it, just tight enough to snug up the fit until you can get a new one.
They can pop off when the engine "sneezes" back through the intake - the cause of that is usually an overly-lean mixture (often due to worn throttle bodies on the carbs).

Thanks again.
Learn something every day.
I wish I'd seen that before I started replacing everything.

use a Fuel Injection hose clamp. they won't cut into it.
