1904 ways of building it ?

I'm interested in building a 1904 VW engine. I've seen two ways to do it. First is to use A pistons and a short 5.325 rod. Second is to use a B piston and long 5.500 rod. Which would be the most beneficial to an engine with stock valves, Engel 110 cam, 8.1 compression ratio in a stock bug?

Either provided you keep a tightish deck height, you won't feel the difference

I did it once with "A" pistons. If I'd ever do it again (I wouldn't) I'd use "B" pistons and a longer rod.

Why wouldn't you build another 1904 ?

They only cost a small amount less than a 2276. You pretty much only avoid case clearance work, and end up with a motor that is wider, making less power. Besides, I'd way rather putt 94s on a 69 stroke, and get the option of running big heads on the motor.

A longer stroke usually gives a bit more torque or so it has been said.

A 1904 is a waste of time unless you already have the parts. If you do, I'd say go for it. If not, use a 82mm crank and be done with it. Much easier to build.
