My 1679 build thread. First engine build

Post by Carguy89 »

So I want to build a 1679 for my Super Beetle. Stripped down my Original EA case. Looks like it's been line bored once but never thrust cut from the measurements I have taken.
Width of #1 main bearing saddle 46mm or 0.844in

#4 main bearing OD 50.55mm or 1.99in

#1 main bearing OD 65.52mm or 2.579in

#1-3 main bearing bores all measure 65.28mm or 2.57in

#4 main bearing bore 50.32mm or 1.981in

Connecting rod side clearance 0.254-.279mm or 0.010-0.011in or #s 1-3. 0.432mm or 0.017in on #4.

Just got the case cleaned up, going to bolt it back together to take more measurements this week.

This is a learning build for me. I am using the Tom Wilson book as a guide. Not going in a daily driver just a Weekend cruiser.

What camshaft should I put in this engine. I would like to run dual carbs on it as well. Probably going to keep my stock heat exchangers as its cold up here in Northern Canada.
