cam choice for a 1300 turbo bug
Hi all I'm rebuilding my 1300 turbo bug engine itch I was running a stock cam but what other cams are out there for a small displacement turbo engine?

What was it that you didn't like about the stock cam? What modifications have been done to your heads and what are your expectations?

One with lumps on.
But seriously, stock or small aftermarket ones. Engle 110 or similar. The engle turbo cams are mostly round this size but with not much overlap. If I were you I'd recycle the stocker and use ratio rockers like you already have.
Your real challenge will be finding a turbo small enough to get it to boost up before redline.
Actually, what you should do is have the case machined out for 1600 or 1641 pistons and cylinders. That would be a much better use of funds.

Re: cam choice for a 1300 turbo bug
Hi all. I loved the way the stock cam went but was just wondering if there was even a better one out there for small displacement turbo engines.
my TD02 turbo is all ready spinning up by 1500 rpm and giving me (when n third or fourth gear) 6psi by 2000rpm and if I want it to go higher it will be all out at max boost of 12 psi at 4000 rpm . But now I'm getting use to how this engine goes I'm starting to get carried away and have noticed that I'm starting push the rpm limit higher and higher way past the stock cranks limit.
was think of fitting a 1600 engine but all the carb jest will need changing the turbo will he ok but I think the renault 5 GT turbo carb may be to small?
Anyway with my current set up and running 8 psi boost the 1300 engine most definitely out performs my old 2054cc engine once they are over 2000rpm

Re: cam choice for a 1300 turbo bug
I am running a W-100 cam with stock rockers and I have no problem getting it to rev.
A bigger cam will just make you want to rev it higher.
In my logs I see I have gone as high as 5800 rpm when I didn't have the rev limiter active.
I'm thinking that is why I haven't been able to make better times when only revving to 5200 rpm.
Rpm is hp......

If your not up-grading the crank to a Counter Weighted one
stick with a small cam such as the w100

IMHO the carb is good for 200+ bhp - I think the standard Renault 5 GT turbo ( dependant on age ) was around 120 bhp from a 1400cc engine.advinnie wrote:was think of fitting a 1600 engine but all the carb jest will need changing the turbo will he ok but I think the renault 5 GT turbo carb may be to small?

Re: cam choice for a 1300 turbo bug
I have now seen many 1600 and 1641 engines running the renault 5 turbo don't know how long a 1641 would last but an now considering a 1600 but wouldn't a 1300 cylinder still be more reliable because it's thicker than a 1600?

I wouldnt worry about that. When i had detonation i cracked the pistons, the cylinders were fine...
Better to be blown than to suck!
