New Baja weld in front clip.

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

New Baja weld in front clip.

Post by Getrdone »

Here is a new front clip for a pan application. The tunnel block off plate welds on, then bolt on the front clip for locating the holes to cut through the firewall. Then weld up the plate that's bolted to the tunnel block off, connect the through bars and brace to cage. Hoops fit just under the fiberglass and use a 10" coil-over. Designed for 4 over arms. Tie rods clear all the travel a 4 over can give you. The model shows piggyback, but remote resi's required.

Looks like a good design. The model appears to have two more diagonals from the shock towers, are they going into the clip? Leaving them off would leave more room for a spare tire, or in my case an ice chest. But the towers might stand some chance of bowing inwards without them?

When I grow up I want to weld like you do.

They were left off for that reason. Could be optional.

Can these run a coilover and a bypass? Are they available as a stand alone piece, with out the spindles, shocks etc. I looked at the site but didn't find them except as a kit.

I don't think it will take a bypass, but I'll check when I get a chance. Have another in the works that would

The total price of the A arm kit and this new coil over beam front kit are pretty close (north of 3k both). Which would be better for a dual sport car that is 75% street 25% off road?

Steve, for your use i think the a arm would work great. Both times Big Dave broke his it was the steering rack that was the issue and he also bent one spindle 1 time. That was a very hard hit though and was also a bj spindle. The new ones have a bolt on spindle which i think is a great improvement. There has been mention of improvement of the rack also. Big Daves set up used a rabbit rack and imo was the weak link. If this has been improved i think you will really like this set up. With your 2x3 arms you would have a very nice dual sport.
