Hi, I've just joined the VW family!

What is the correct and best way to install a fuel sender on a standard aircooled Beetle?

What year tank are you working with? `62-`67 had a mechanical (cable-driven) gauge and later years had an electric one in the speedo.

There are also two different fuel senders. Up to about 72 they had a single wire connector for power and relied on one of the mounting bolts making metal/metal contact with the tank and then getting and earth through the tank clamps. The later versions have a second connector on the sender for a dedicated earth/chassis connection. The early version can have an earthing wire added under one of the bolts to make a dedicated earth if you have an earthing problem.

The sender'as bolt pattern is asymmetric (one bolt is offset) so the sender will only attach in one direction, allowing the float to move freely inside the tank.
