Carb mods for blow through application
When doing a blow through system, what mods would you do to Weber 44 carbs?
Thank you

Pull out the venturiis, plug the main jets, and install a CB Weber-mount TPS assy so you can tune the accels a little better in TunerStudio. Pretty good sized ITBs used like that, but they are paid for.
If I only had a single that's the ONLY sane way to go.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

While dated and subtle push for the CB catalog of parts TurboMania is still considered "step 1" to read this.

Don't remove the venturis (you need them to make a carb work), don't plug the main jets (you need those also), a TPS is not useful.

Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

When you blow through a carb, don't go to a forum and ask how to blow through it. Instead, search the forum for how to blow through it. Spend your own time researching rather than asking others to do your research for you. There are hundreds of threads at your fingertips here, just lookCragrobbo wrote:When doing a blow through system, what mods would you do to Weber 44 carbs?

Re: Carb mods for blow through application
There are quite a few of us that have done the blow thru carb thing.
Turbobaja and I are two of them.....Both of us are now FI and have been for 2-3 years now.
If I could do it over again I would have gone FI right away.
While turbo and carb was a learning experience.... I should have put the money and time into FI right away and saved myself many days and nights of frustration and jet swapping.
Once you get a taste of boost you will be addicted and want to get more and more. While it can be done on a carb FI is the way to go for a fun and reliable daily driver.
That is not to say you won't have teething problems with FI too, but your chances of being successful at the higher boost levels will be better.
When I was using a turbo carb I sacrificed a set of pistons and barrels while fighting detonation. Since I have gone FI and WI I have not had any major issues with detonation except when it is really hot. My P/C's are still in good shape and I have driven over 21,000 miles on my Fuel Injection. I am at 22 lbs. boost and I am sure I would never be able to get that amount of boost thru a carb.
As I said.....boost is an addiction and if you think you can stay at 6 lbs you will be lying........You will always want more.
That said........
If you want to try carb go for it......I did a Bocar 34 Pict and the end result of all my 2 yrs of trying it ended up being almost a stock carb. All it really needed was the float bowl vent extended up into the carb hat to get a better boost reference to get fuel into the engine.
I went from dead lean at full boost to pig rich and went all the way back down to a stock size main jet. I quit since my ultimate goal was FI and by that time I had gathered the parts to upgrade.
Read Turbo's build thread and my build thread........We both have the process we went thru documented on our builds.
My carb section is basically the first 40 pages of the build.

Carb turbo can be done if you want the challenge and there are people that say they have a great running setup.
But there is very seldom a detailed build or video of the project running and driving.
Do your research and make your own decision on how you want to proceed. If it not a daily driver you can dedicate the time to do it.
I used to have lots of bookmarked links to carb info but I haven't looked at that stuff in 3 years now.
Have fun and start a build thread...make sure to post pics. I used my build to document what I did so I could go back and read. That way I wouldn't do the same dumb thing twice......

Re: Carb mods for blow through application
Thank you to everone who has helped, I will check out the book now and the thread too.
The oter issue is that on most of tese forum boards the search feature is not great and is sometimes hard to find something without searching a billion threads when asking the question can save much time and be more effective if someone knows the answer
I have searched and didn't find an answer in a way that it helped me to understand, I also used google facebook groups and other forums to which I have asked the same question.
When you search you get a varying result and is rare you find te exact answer you are looking for. So tanks for you 'input'
Well, I see this a lot on oter peoples posts - People always assume that people have not already searched. However the forum is here not just as an archive but live discussion too.turbobaja wrote:When you blow through a carb, don't go to a forum and ask how to blow through it. Wow, sorry to hear you've struggled so much to find the information you're looking for. I would simply encourage you to keep searching. Definitely get a build thread going so its easier to follow the actual details of your specific application, and folks can give more useful feedback.

Use google site search, works much better than the boards search...

I have a great set of weber 44 idf all set up for turbo. Im thinking of going EFI. The reason i have not was the car runs so good but it an offroad car so whoops always cause issues unless your rpms are up. I may pull the engine and put it into my bug. that issue will not be an issue any more.

Re: Carb mods for blow through application
First i used Viton needles and seats larger than stock. I dont remember but it was cross drilled. Next adjust the floats to be about 11mm then add turbo e tubes and mod rings. 4mm smaller than the vents if I remember correctly.
I also extended the float bowl vent hole up about 2'' to prevent direct boost blowing in the hole. you will need lots of jets and a wideband to tune it. find a fuel pump that will pressure just over the max boost you will ever use. I drilled and taped the intakes in the enter to get a vacuum or boot signal. I did both sides and connected them. added boost retarding ignition and all kinds of stuff. I have a build thread you can go see.

I did see a new intake for weber 44 carbs to do a draw through. it looks very promising. it is heated by the oil too. This may be old news here.
