Short Notice: Skidmark's Goler Wash Super Bloom Express

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Short Notice: Skidmark's Goler Wash Super Bloom Express

Post by Leatherneck »

Last-Minute gathering. (This is NOT an April Fools joke). David's (Leatherneck) son, has become a Marine and will be heading to Japan shortly. David asked if we could do a run. We haven't worked out the details and I know a lot of you can't do this on such short notice but if you can make it, we're going to stage at Ballarat and go up Goler Wash, by Barker Ranch, over Mengel Pass and into Butte Valley. More details to follow. Probable dates are April 1 and 2 but I included this Friday for good measure
(Note: Skidmark's name and likeness used without permission.)
(Note: Death Valley "super bloom" may not yet be blooming)
(Note: It's probably not really an "Express" but that sounded cool.)

So the thought is that we do the run Saturday, spend the night and leave Sunday. This is a run that Skidmark did several years ago on his Birthday. We will be getting there Friday and spending two nights in the trailer. This is a great run, lots of trail and sites to see.

So what say you, can you make it?

I really like Ballarat an d the Goler Wash area. There is a loop out of Ballarat tat goes up the Mountain to a overlook of sorts and come down and out between Ballarat and Goler Wash that has some very cool cabins you can stay in if they are not being used that is just awesome, can't remember what they were called but I may still have some pics. Have fun and post pics.

Thanks Ed. We've done this run a lot and have been on most of the trails in that area and stayed in the cabins too.
So, are you going to join us this time?

Maybe someday Leather, I grew up in Beatty Nv and spent a lot of time in Death Valley as a kid. One time I rode my Yamaha 80 from Beatty to Stove Pipe Wells along with a Honda 90 and a Bultaco 175, all full on dirt bikes LOL. Also quite a few Titus Canyon rides too, one of my favorites :D

I haven't checked it out with the CEO yet, but I'd sure like to go. We're going to the SNORE race at Ridgecrest this next weekend. I've wanted to go to the area for many years but I can never seem to find anyone to go with. My toys are all broken these days, so i would need to hitch a ride if anyone has a seat available. I was talking to an old buddy who has a WW2 Jeep (V6, 33x12.50 BFGs, spring over, custom leaves, winch) who MIGHT be interested. Haven't mentioned it to him yet either though. LMK if a Jeep would be welcome.

Richard, thanks for stepping up, has nothing to do with the Jeep but I'm going to have to call this one, not enough riders. We will make this one another day, I will bring Christian on a local run. Maybe make our way down to the Desert Bar in Parker.

Sorry to hear that Leather. I would have liked to have been able to make it, I like that part of DV but that little bridge above those cabins is pretty hair raising IMHO.

Well...My friend with the Jeep is not able to make it this weekend, and the Boss says we have other obligations as well.

So, I suppose we'll have to wait for another time.
