Beetle's Speedo Quit on me Today!

The speedo quit working on the way to the ice cream store today.
I have not driven it for about a month but, I had been starting up up about once a week.
Then when I was about to leave I got this Idea to try backing up a little before heading out.
Voila! It started working again.
It sounds like the cable is going out though.
I think I will try and find a German speedo cable and replace it.
